Overview:The Institute started as a specialized Unit within the Central Criminal Investigations in 1989 following an issue of a decision by the Minister of Interior it was given the name of ‘Criminal and Social Researches Centre’ as a specialized – scientific Centre which concerns with scientific research. In 1991 it became a specialized administration under the name of “Centre of Information, Planning and Researches’. Meanwhile the structural modifications at the Ministry of Interior necessitate that the centre should be under the General Administration for Training and was given the name of “Criminal Researches Centre” till 1995 before it returned for the second time to the Administration for Planning, Follow Up and Researches. In the period between 1997 and 1999, it was back – again to the General Administration of the Central Investigation.On the establishment of the National Ribat University, the institute became one of the departments of the Police Higher Academy till 2000 when it became independent as one of the mechanisms of the National Ribat University and as the National Reporter of UN Crime Prevention and Social Justice Programs.On the 5th March, 2003, it was given its current name to contain all future thoughts and visions that represent the programs of high studies.
Mission:This Institute will take care of all activities of defense against crimes and criminal justice and the researches.Vision:To act as agate window by which our country will look through and get benefit from the latest development in the field of criminology and social researches.
Core Values:The proposed plan is to establish a center for criminological and social research also the Institute will take care of all activities of defense against crimes and criminal justice besides addressing the social problems of their research.

Admission Requirements:For acceptance in the Institute the nominees should have a degree from any University or military college.Study system and credited hours:The student system is based upon the credit hours system adopted by the University of Ribat.Duration of study is 37 credit hours within two semesters.
